Well, it was interesting...NOT!
I think I'll suggest that the doctor at the VA have the pleasure of being in the hospital in Little Rock next time.
I am only now recuperating enough to get back to writing.
My eyes decided this would be a good time to act up, one focusing long and one short. Makes for a very blurry world any way you look at it.
As you might have guessed by the Title, Chapter 21 is winging it's way to my wonderful editor Stormy Weather and could well be submitted for posting tomorrow.
More new characters have been introduced in this chapter. I know, I know, you're having trouble remembering who's on first, lol.
I didn't say it would be easy, just very interesting.
Thank you to those that wrote and were concerned that I was about to orphan the story, not happening. Unless I kick the bucket, I will finish what I started.

How Hoot It Is-Chapter 19
2007-09-24
Stormy Weather should have Chapter 19 in her E-mail in-box as I type this. It would have been finished and sent yesterday evening but my ISP was down from the time I returned home until sometime this morning.
The story line moves along, a new deputy is hired to fill the vacancy left by the death of Trommer, the town and county are recovering from the various nefarious activities, and things are about to get even more interesting for Jamie, Sherry, Hoot, and ET around the house.
For those that wandered in to read the Blog before reading Hoot, you really need to go read it first. You will at least have a scorecard to be able to keep up with the players, lol.
How Hoot It Is takes off exactly from where Hoot ends so it might be a bit confusing to just dive into it.
My thanks to all that have written with encouragement, those that have given constructive criticisms, and those that have suggested plot twists. I actually have incorporated some of the better ones.
Hopefully the new chapter will be edited, returned, and posted later today.

68* and humid. Yep, that's N. Central Arkansas in a nut shell. Freeze the balls off a Brass Monkey one day and the next you are down to shorts and T-shirt.
We still have buzzards around so we may not have much of a severe winter in this neck of the woods this year but...this is Arkansas.
Chapter 50, which Stormy Weather, in spite of a heavy work load with her won writing, manage to come through once more.
That is why you will have something to read now and not have to settle for a boring TV show.
Enjoy a slightly different twist in this chapter as the, 'kids with fur,' set out to discover why a skeleton is driving a truck.

Well, I guess I'm on a roll or something, three chapters in two days. Might have to get a hose, I think my brain may overheat, lol.
I've just sent Chapter 26 to my wonderful editor Stormy Weather for her magic touch.
I had some feedback for a reader that wanted to know why the sentence was + 1 day. It's old law and may be unconstitutional in the current 'Liberal' atmosphere of the court but it was designed to forestall the possibility of a later court or judge trying to shorten the length of the sentence.
The noose tightens on illegal activity in Searcy County.
Feedback please, it always helps and a vote doesn't hurt if it's honest.

The First Book is finished, edited (for now, although I have received an offer to edit it from a reader), and posted.
Hopefully the sum is greater than the parts.
I wish to thank all of those that have taken the time, sometimes more then once, to send me feedback.
One reader mentioned that they almost didn't read it because the tag didn't pull them in.
This was, somewhat, intentional.
I see far too many intros that tell all of the story except for the grunts and sighs (some even do that).
I would rather have the reputation for writing a story that will entertain, entrique and invite because the author doesn't need to tell the story before they, the reader, have a chance to read it.
I will begin, to endeavor, to start on the Second Book,
"How Hoot It Is."
Hopefully this one won't take 16 years to finish.

This is an Out-of-Town weekend.
Sweety time, I'll be back Sunday in order to work on Chapter Two of HHII (Good Lord willing and the creeks don't rise).
If this were in the 1800's, the distance to her place would come out to a 7-10 day journey, if everything went smoothly, with a lot of axle greasings and the Buffalo National River to cross.

Can't Win For Losing

Just when you think you are clear something hits you from the other direction.
Just after I submitted Chapter 53, I came down with a severe chest cold, and have felt like death warmed over ever since.
I am doing a little better but still coughing and wheezing, headache, muscle ache...you get the idea.
Now, my 82+ year old mother has contracted the same. I just hope it is not as severe.

As you might have gathered from the title, I have re-edited (to clear up some of my mistakes) and reposted Hoot.
I received a very nice review from threesheets, which
I have posted below for your perusal.
'Hoot' has been reviewed on the site by Threesheets.
Here is a copy of the review:
A boy, a dog, a .22 cal rifle. Woods to walk and hills
to climb, it doesn't get much better as far as growing
up goes. Mix in a Mad Hatter "Colonel" a little/lot of
local corruption and some love/lust and you have a
story.
Hoot the Wonder Dog saves the boy just like Lassie.
Actually it's a nice little story that is stand alone
right up until Hoot tells Jamie he is up for pancakes
and sausage.
Go figure. Oh, and don't pass it by either.
There are several errors (Homonym's) and grammar but
it is not enough to totally detract from the story.

Life intervened, as it is want to do, and I returned Sunday evening from visiting my 'Sweety' to find over 60 e-mails in the in-box of my personal e-mail account (we won't even begin to discuss the junk mail).
I persevered and finally winnowed them down to the few that mattered and then worked the rest of the evening answering, editing and writing.
Morpheus finally won the battle at around 0330.
Stormy Weather, wonderful person that she is, waded through my verbiage, managed to glean grain from chaff and avoided the brain farts lying at random.

For purely selfish reasons, I hope Stormy Weather stays healthy. I would have Mell of a Hess on my hands if she were not there to hold my hand, and you folks would have to guess at what I was trying to convey.
Chapter 40 is still dealing with the aftermath of events at the truck stop, trying to decide whom to include in the team, and ET is still concerned about Hoot's missing chain.

P.S. After repeated attempts to get the site to react to my submission in the correct fashion, it finally went through at 1756 hours.

Stormy Weather is enduring the endless Turkey leftover syndrome but managed to Edit Chapter 38 and return it to me quickly...then I fell asleep in my recliner as I was preparing to submit it.
Hey...I'm old, besides that was only a...well, two one hour segments ago, I just couldn't stay awake in between.
My day with the kids yesterday must have drained me more than I thought, and they had some really good sliced Turkey at Shoney's, must be a delayed effect, lol.
Okay, enough rambling, it is a race to see which happens first; go senile, go completely crazy, or die, lol.
Now that the dog, Jackass (Midpin, he can't be a Minpin, he weighs over 20 lbs), has me completely awake, he has gone back to sleep. Dirty dog!
You should thank him however, because I did submit Chapter 38.

It's been in the triple digits and dry for a while now here in the Boston Mountains.
Now, that may not sound like much to those that live in some of the normally arid areas but it is atypical for this neck of the woods.

Hi folks:
Just be patient, I sent Chapter 30 off the day before I got 29 back for posting but I have not heard from Stormy Weather since she let me know it would be the next day before she could get to it.
I'm not complaining mind you, just letting you know that the next chapter will be posted as soon as I receive it.
Being old and disabled to boot means I don't have a life, that's been documented, so my schedule is pretty flexible; I sleep when tired, eat when hungry, etc.
The downside of the above condition is a raft of health and eye problems. 22 inch monitor at 24 inches away is too small, if you get my drift.
Just a note to let you folks know where we stand at the moment so there won't be a lynch mob beating on my door, lol.

Good evening fellow earthlings and others that may be interested;
As the Header says Chapter 43 is submitted for posting...for the second time today.
I had received the chapter from Stormy Weather and posted it. Then I got an E-mail from that wonderful lady and she had re-read the chapter, with her eyes open this time, and realized that it had some major flaws.
Once alerted to this I wrote to SOL and asked them to remove the offending document and they did immediately.
Unfortunately at least two of the folks had read it that I know of, because they wrote feedback (liked it).
I rewrote the offending portions of the chapter, sent it back to Stormy Weather to see if I had screwed up something else, and I just received it back.
I hope this time the chapter is more better, duh.
I shall attempt to write with both eyes and at least half of what passes for a brain on future chapters.

If I did not need a computer to maintain what sanity I still possess, it would take a short walk off a tall building.
Really not the computer's fault, it was the wireless router that picked Friday afternoon about 1330 to somehow lose all of the address to the ISP, severing my ties to the outside world.
I was not able to get my friend/neighbor the ISP Tech to come fix it until 1700 today.
This enabled me to receive Chapter 44, which Stormy Weather had already Edited and sent to me on Friday, and submit it for posting.
It was so depressing during the intervening time that I did not even feel like writing. My apologies.
I will endeavor to persevere and get Chapter 45 out as soon as possible.

Greetings my faithful and patient readers;
I just retrieved my sweetie from the hospital in Springfield, MO.,where she underwent abdominal surgery on Wednesday.
She will be off work for 8 weeks and when she returns, will only be able to lift 20# or risk tearing everything loose that the doctor repaired.
In addition some of my teeth have been acting up to the point my eyes wanted to swell shut and I spent most of my spare time popping pain pills, swabbing Oragel, and drinking my meals when I had an appetite.
As you might guess, the creative juices were somewhat lacking. I wrote Chapter 51 and sent it to Stormy Weather for Editing...she sent it back and said it wasn't up to my usual standards.
It wasn't so I'm getting other stuff lined out and trying to be able to write without distractions.
Tough at the best of times.

Life has intervened once more with trips to doctors, one in Springfield and one at the VA in Little Rock.
These trips usually take at least three days each in order to recover sufficiently to function at a minimal level.

Well, don't everyone faint, but a new chapter arrives at long last.
Stormy Weather preformed her usual fine work and any faux pas that appear are mine after the fact.
I hope to have another chapter ready by next week. We shall see.
I took Toni to Springfield today--240 mile round trip--for a post-op checkup.
The doctor informed us that Toni is doing well, and may be cleared to return to work in three more weeks.
The doctor stipulated however that she lift no more than a gallon of milk until then, and no more than twenty pounds--EVER--when she is released from care.
I will keep a low but supportive profile while Toni adjusts to the new paradigm of her existence.
The shift from being able to handle fifty to one hundred pound objects at a whim are over, and a lifetime of habits will have to be unlearned.
Together we shall endeavor to preserver.

Stormy Weather was finally able to decipher my attempt at Chapter 54 of "How Hoot It Is," and it has been submitted.
The pneumonia is gone, my strength returning, I'm finally getting a clear head, or as clear as it ever gets anymore, and I'm trying to get back into the swing of things.
Remember, patience is a virtue, unless you are an American, then it is, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead." Followed closely by, "I want it two days ago, damn it!"

Hi Folks;
Do not fall over in shock, I managed to get off my dead ass, onto my dieing feet, finished another chapter oh How Hoot It Is, and got it sent off to Stormy Weather.
She does a much faster and job of editing than I do writing.

I have good news and bad news.
Good news...I completed Chapter four of Hooters and got it sent off to Stormy Weather.
Bad news...I completed Chapter 61 of How Hoot It Is...then fooled around, saved it, and erased it.
AHG! GRRR!
Okay, I'm through venting, lol.
Back to the salt mines.

Stormy Weather had a little rougher time editing my mess this time, I kept switching tenses on her, lol.
Nothing like living in the past, the present, and the future. I think it is referred to as unconscious.
Whatever, at least it is finally submitted for posting and I am working on re-writing chapter 61 of How Hoot It Is. I still can't believe I saved it and then deleted it.
As usual, any mistakes that remain are mine after the fact.

Hooters Chapter 6 Submitted for Posting

Finally, another chapter for my long suffering readers.
In this chapter, the two separate stories converge for a bit, and a new member is added to the crew.
My apologies for the duration of the wait, life keeps intruding on my time or my health does. It's all the same.
Stormy Weather has performed her usual excellent job of editing and any mistakes found are mine--I can't seem to leave well enough alone, lol.

Stormy Weather came through again and Chapter 62 of How Hoot It Is awaits posting.
I know it has been awhile since I last posted and some folks might be getting disheartened and impatient but there isn't a great deal I can do about it.
Life tends to happen and we have to deal with it as best we can.
Hopefully it will leave me alone for a bit and I can write another chapter on one of the stories.
